Quality of item was as if brand new.

I was a little concerned buying a refurb considering the range of DOCSIS 3.1 (as in it will likely last years as a standard for a home cable modem) and expected product longevity (you want to have the modem last years as well without concern or need for further replacement) but I have had no issues at all and the modem works spectacularly.

I am very happy with the price and Prime ship time as I needed a modem fast when my previous modem failed. I am a remote worker and reliability of a data connection is critical. My modem and high end router of the same brand now work together perfectly.

Setup is as easy as calling your cable provider, and you save the cost of any cable fee for leasing equipment.

Almost 1 year later!
I ordered this back on October 4, 2023, its now September 1, 2024 so its been almost a year. I was a bit skeptical about how well this would do given some of the negative reviews and the fact that I bought it as a 'renewed' item. I replaced my old Arris Surfboard Docsis 3.0 modem and let me tell you this thing doubled my internet speeds. Its been a workhorse since then. The setup is super easy and it kinda just sets itself up for you. I've had to power cycle this thing several times whenever I see super slow speeds or Netflix isn't loading. Its the whole turn it off and back on again and that's the only thing I've ever had to do to fix any issues with speed. The last time I had to reboot it was probably over a month ago. I can't recommend this enough to anyone wanting to get a discounted, high quality item!

Why buy new? Works great with Mediacom 1G service
I waited a week before writing a review, just to make sure all was good with the modem. I was a little wary ordering a refurbished version, especially after seeing some of the reviews here. But, with Amazon’s return policy, I figured it was worth a try since the price was almost half off of new.
The modem arrived in a plain brown box, was well packed inside, and after looking over the modem, I couldn’t tell this wasn’t a new modem, other than the round sticker on the back stating it was a netgear official refurbished product.
I got this modem to replace an old Arris 3.0 modem that limited my speed to roughly 300mbs down. It was a freebie from a family member to get me by, and it worked ok, but I am now getting the 1G package from Mediacom.
I hooked up the Netgear, following the instructions for installation included in the package. After a quick 10 minute call (if that) to Mediacom, I was up and running, at full 1G speeds. Over the past week the modem has been rock solid, no resets needed, haven’t noticed any slowdowns or dropped connection. I really can’t find anything to complain about, other than I wish I could mount it horizontally, since it’s larger than the Arris modem it replaced, and doesn’t fit on the shelf where I had that modem. Even out in the open, it certainly looks much better than the white Arris modem I was using. Lights aren’t obnoxiously bright and overall look is pretty nice really.

the Netgear Nighthawk is a good looking modem and works well.
i purchased this modem to replace an older modem that only allowed speeds up to 175 mbps, this modem allows me to access 400 mbps. my old modem was only letting me access 130 mbps and now my cell phone is getting 270 mbps, so this modem works very well and the difference is noticeable, everything streams faster and smoother, video games are working much better on our nintendo switch, no lag.
when i received the Nighthawk, i just plugged the power, the coaxial cable and the ethernet cable connected to the router, then i contacted my isp, i gave them the new mac number for the Nighthawk and they they activated the new modem, after that i just re-started the modem and router and it was working. it was simple and only took about fifteen minutes from start to finish, the Netgear Nighthawk looks and works like new so i am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their modem.
