Blazing Speeds Meet Xfinity Activation Challenge! ??????

Upgrading to the ARRIS S33 modem was like jumping to lightspeed in my home network. Coming from a history of using ARRIS products, which have always been stellar, this move was more about staying ahead in the internet speed game.

The motivation? To tap into the full potential of my 1.2Gbps service. The previous modem was a faithful servant in the realm of DOCSIS 3.0, but the S33, with its DOCSIS 3.1 technology, has taken things to the next level. It's like unleashing the full power of my internet service. On my M1 iMac, I'm now hitting an average of 950 Mbps, which is phenomenal. It's a five-star experience in terms of performance.

However, it's not all smooth sailing. If you're with Xfinity, brace yourself for a bit of an odyssey. The modem itself is designed for simplicity – a plug-n-play dream. But the activation with Xfinity? That's where the plot thickens.

My attempt to activate through the Xfinity app hit a wall. The app was a no-go, and the chat with Xfinity agents turned into a marathon of confusion and miscommunication. From compatibility doubts to system non-recognition, it was a series of hurdles. The escalation didn't smooth things out either.

A trip to the Xfinity service center, based on agent advice, turned into a waiting game and a revelation that the service centers are just as much in the dark. Despite the assurances and escalations, the solution still felt elusive.

But, in a twist worthy of a tech thriller, a call from Xfinity's tech group brought the light at the end of the tunnel. The modem was finally configured, activated, and ready to go. The ordeal? Roughly 4 hours, multiple chats, a service center visit, and a pinch of patience.

In conclusion, the ARRIS S33 modem is a beast in terms of speed and reliability, a definite upgrade for anyone looking to maximize their internet service. Just be prepared for a bit of an installation saga with Xfinity – it's worth it in the end!

Another Surfboard Success
When I need a new modem, I buy a surfboard. This one works just as well as all the previous incarnations. I get gigabit speed--and I am sure I will be able to eke out even faster speeds when my provider gets there, thanks to a multi-gigabit port.

I use Comcast, and it took a phone call to tech support to get this going (it was NOT plug and play). This meant I had to listen to all the pitches for me to buy other services. At least the rep knew this modem and had no trouble getting it to connect. And that's behind me now, and I'm very happy with the performance of this modem.

Fast modem
This modem doesn't provide WiFi which was one of the features to rate. This isn't an issue as I prefer to use my own wireless router. The modem is paired with ASUS's ROG Rapture GT-AX6000. The 2.5Gbs WAN port is directly connected to my ASUS's 2.5Gb WAN port and then splits off to multiple 2.5Gb switches. Currently, I'm with Xfinity's 1Gbps plan and wanted to achieve close to if not those speeds. Unfortunately, our house is wired with coaxial so these are the physical limitations to any further speed increases. Overall, this was a great modem with no issues on installation. It does require you to activate the new device through Xfinity but that was painless as well with their app.

Fast and robust. Xfinity install worked perfect
Getting speeds I pay for. Install was a walk in the park using the Xfinity app. Plug in, open the app, enter the MAC number and wait while it loaded firmware and restarted. Be sure your cable connectors are tight. Replaced an 8 channel TPlink after a speed upgrade. TPlink never had any problems, it's just close to obsolete for speeds over 400. I tried last year to install a Motorola MB8611 modem, but it was susceptible to line noise and would randomly reboot soon after installing. The Arris S33 has maintained a solid connection from day one.
